Le koriste Diola was created by max macodou diop in 1999. He says that his paintings give and impression of his traditional  culture that is slowly getting lost from his society. He says that his painting these day are mostly colorful pieces that resemble a puzzle.

The reason I chose this painting to preview was because of the patterns. To me the pattern makes the picture look like it could be tiled. I know it is not tiled but I like that i would have had me guessing if i did not already know that it was acrylic on fabric. Another reason I fell in love with this painting is because of how expressive it is. It makes me think of music and dancing.

I was not particularly fond of this painting, however I did find it interesting the style of painting the artist went with. I would not have no this was not a mosaic or tile image had i not read your information. It must have taken the artist a great deal of time to figure out how to depict such an image across fabric with the se of simple acrylics. I also like that the artist paints about matters close to their heart, as you had mentioned they did in this painting. I wonder what kind of puzzle the artist is trying to create with all of his works, it would be interesting to gather them together and see what they are hinting towards.

Creative piece of artwork! You nicely covered the required information in your post but I was also curious of you might know what the title means in English? What is the picture of? Sometimes artists get so creative that it is nice just to have an idea of what the story may be behind the picture, asthis one looks like the person is in a village doing an activity… If we knew the title’s meaning it may help, or not.

The fact that this work was actually put to fabric is pretty neat. This puzzle effect is awesome! Good selection.
